New work: #458 Campus Woodlot #3 Sunrise

Welcome Chautauqua-Lake Erie Art Trail visitors.

Painting Sale 10-noon everyday of the Open Studio Tour, $50 off all paintings.

Over the past eight years, I have been completing a series of Plein Air paintings that celebrate the beauty and history of local agricultural communities. Through these works I have sought to capture the unique geography, weather patterns, and natural resources of Western New York. Increasingly conservation and sustainability issues have become central to my work.

2013 started with a bang. First stop, Big Celestial Landscapes and the completion of the huge Winter Zoar Valley I have been slowly working on for six years. Then I moved onto several new smaller regional landscapes such as #458 Campus Woodlot (above). Based on the huge success of last year’s painting-a-day series, I have been gearing up for a new flower series this spring. In June, I will be teaching watercolor and oil painting classes as part of
Chautauqua In June. At the end of June, we will be headed to France for two weeks; highlights from the trip will include painting the view from Sacré-Cœur Basilica at sunset (completing a seventeen-year goal) and painting in Monet’s Gardens. In July, it is off to the Elk Lick Scout Reserve with the boys. In August, we will head east again for a long overdue tour of the Adirondacks. I’m not sure what the fall will bring, but its always exciting to get out and capture the fall color.
